Frequently Asked Questions

General Services

Q: Do we have to bring the boards to you?
A: No. We are a mobile service—our technicians come directly to your location and resurface your cutting boards on site.

Q: How much do you take off when shaving a board?
A: It depends on how deep the cuts are. For clients on regular service, we usually take off 0.5–1 mm to restore a smooth, sanitary surface.

Q: How often should I get the boards shaved?
A: Frequency depends on usage. For most kitchens, a regular 4-month service ensures boards remain safe, clean, and compliant with food safety standards. Heavy-use kitchens may need more frequent service.

Q: Are you able to make a custom countertop?
A: Yes. We do custom fabrications based on your requirements. Provide us with your dimensions and design, and we’ll work with you to create a durable, food-safe HDPE surface.

Q: What kind of cutting boards do you supply?
A: We supply high-quality HDPE cutting boards that are:

  • NSF and HACCP certified

  • Non-porous, food-grade, and easy to sanitize

  • Resistant to moisture and bacteria buildup

  • Available in multiple thicknesses and custom sizes

Ordering & Shipping

Q: How fast can we get the new boards?
A: We ship Canada-wide. Delivery typically takes 3–5 business days after your order is confirmed. Custom boards may take longer depending on specifications.

Q: Do you ship outside of Canada?
A: [Do you ship to the U.S. or internationally? If yes, I’ll include timelines and fees here.]

Q: Can I order online?
A: Yes, you can order directly through our website cleancuttingboard.ca. For custom requests, you can contact our team for a quote.

Returns & Refunds

Q: Can I return a custom cutting board?
A: No. All custom-cut boards are non-returnable due to cross-contamination risks. Please double-check your measurements before ordering.

Q: What about standard replacement boards (Subway, Tim Hortons, etc.)?
A: Standard boards may be eligible for return only if they have not been used and there is a genuine fit issue with the equipment. Used boards (scratches, knife marks, food residue) are not eligible for return.

Q: Can I get a refund for shaving services?
A: No, shaving services are non-refundable once performed. We reserve the right to deny service if boards are moldy, unsafe, or too thin.

Payments

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: [Do you accept credit card, debit, e-transfer, cheque, or all of the above? Please confirm so I can add specifics.]

Q: When is payment due?
A: All invoices are due upon receipt. A 2% monthly interest fee applies to past-due balances.

Service & Safety

Q: What if my cutting boards have mold or are very thin?
A: We reserve the right to deny service if boards are unsafe (e.g., black mold) or too thin for proper shaving. In those cases, replacement boards may be recommended.

Q: Do I need to clean the boards before service?
A: Yes. Boards must be clean and dry before shaving. Failure to do so may result in denial of service or a $50 cleaning fee.

Q: Will shaving weaken my boards?
A: Shaving removes only as much material as necessary to restore safety and hygiene. We do not over-shave, and our process extends the life of your boards.

Maintenance & Best Practices

Q: How do I maintain my cutting boards after service?
A: To maximize board life:

  • Wash with hot, soapy water after each use

  • Sanitize regularly with a food-safe sanitizer

  • Avoid prolonged soaking (prevents warping)

  • Dry boards completely before stacking or storing

  • Rotate boards to ensure even wear

Q: When should I replace a cutting board instead of resurfacing?
A: Boards should be replaced if:

  • They are too thin after repeated shaving

  • They have deep cracks or burns

  • Mold or contaminants cannot be removed safely

Q: Do you provide replacement boards if shaving is not possible?
A: Yes, we offer a full range of standard and custom boards if your current boards cannot be resurfaced.
